Bloody Yo-Yoing Dietary Headlines.

Meat is terrible and will destroy the planet! Meat is good and will save the world. Oh, f*** off!

We’re constantly bombarded with dietary headlines from tabloids to Titans like the Telegraph and the New York Times. I for one am sick of it. I’m a registered nutritionist; who prides himself on researching and trying to remain objective, but I am done reading these types of newspaper articles.

This latest one, featured in the article ‘Is red meat back on the menu’, almost supports my narrative. The study is of a very high standard using a cutting edge technique. Unlike those we see scatter-gunned all over the front pages and the internet based on observational data. This new study shows the evidence against red meat is poor, based around studies that don’t show causation; which is true.

Our dietary guidelines have been shaped by these weak studies since good old Ancel Keys cherry-picked his way to fame and fortune about 40 years ago and started us down a cul-de-sac of nutrition science that we’re still struggling to back out from.
