My Months Micro-dosing Magic Mushrooms.

I spent three months taking psilocybe to boost my productivity. Here’s what happened.

Taking a razor blade from its waxy envelope, I sliced open a vacuum pack still warm from the postman’s touch. I chopped a rice-sized lump off the malignant looking mass and dropped it onto the drug dealer scales. Popping the stagnant, smelly thing into my mouth, I chased it down with water and thought, could this be the productivity hack I’ve been searching for?

I’ve failed at many things, pulled down by a pathological impatience that has undermined countless present moments and crippled my future plans. But, after spending nearly four and a half decades living with myself, I’m finally getting a handle on managing self-destructive behaviours and taking action.

Focusing on the present moment means being productive, taking the steps to create something in the future. Working for myself from the old, spare bedroom, now nursery and soon kid’s room whilst trying to conjure up a living, means I can’t afford unproductive days. But making progress on some days feels like wading through treacle.

I tried magic mushrooms not because I was looking for some grand revelation buried deep within my psyche, but because of reports of improved concentration, creativity, and…
