The WHOs evidence to condemn processed meats is a disgrace. They looked at 800 epidemiological studies (which don’t show causation) and whittled that pile to 18. Only 12 showed links to cancer, only one type, colorectal. They mention two others but don’t provide the evidence. The other 6 did not show an association at all. Further, the mechanistic evidence they used, just 2 papers if my memory serves, were studies using a processed meat deliberately high in nitrites and fed to rats that had also been fed a neurotoxin used to give rats colorectal cancer for research studies. If you don’t believe me, you can read my blog about it which breaks down the whole thing. From the 22 scientists, approx 2/3rds of them were vege. How is that not a COI? If you want to quote an authority’s stance on something you should check the science they use to support their position. I’ve done that and found it to be nothing more than a shameful spin on the existing research for to bolster their own ideology and opinions. the evidence they cite for red meat was even worse than this lot!
